The FIU Performance Ensemble
has changed its name to Horizon Independent. Director Herman Rios explains "The University has decided they no longer want to fund a competitive unit and we felt it was in our best interests to proceed with a different name. We're excited to compete in the Independent Open Class locally and nationally." The staff includes Herman Rios as Director, Dina Lopez as Assistant Director, Leon May as Drill Designer, Patty Stetson as Consultant, DeVaughn Robinson and Hector Fermaint in Equipment, Malcolm Baraza in Movement, and Michael Rosales as choreographer. Travel plans include the Orlando and Tampa Regionals, and WGI Finals in Dayton. For more information and upcoming clinic dates, visit horizonyouth.org.

Music permission and copyright forms for the 2011 Season are now on the main website. All Color Guard units who use only recorded music are required to turn in the name and copyright owner of their show music with their membership paperwork in December. All Percussion units (and any color guard units that will use any form of live instrumentation or vocals) must obtain Permission to Arrange from the composition's publishers or copyright holders and turn in copies of these permissions with their membership paperwork in December. If you use live instrumentation or vocals in your performances, you should begin the process now to ensure its completion by December. Forms and additional information are on the Music Information page of the main SFWGA website.
